In response
to challenges facing African American youth and African American communities,
the National Urban League and its 115 affiliates have forged a partnership
with nineteen Black organizations to mount a Campaign for African
American Achievement.
The National Campaign for African American Achievement is aimed
at creating systemic change on three levels: |
| The
first strategy is aimed at public policy arenas, which
influences the lives of children and youth educators, administrators,
policy makers, and other service providers |
The
second strategy focuses on promoting and sustaining
quality schools, youth development structures and support for
all children. |
| The
third strategy is concerned with youth, families and
the African American community directly. The strategies must work
in tandem to create an environment that supports and sustains the
academic and social development of children and youth. |
|
If
we are successful at creating systemic change, these indicators
of success will serve as evidence of our accomplishments for African
American and other children of color:
|
Better
grades and higher test scores.
More social and enhanced survival skills,
A heightened sense of history and self; and
A larger group of African American students and other children
of color prepared for college and/or the job market in the 21st
Century. |
