Doing The Right Thing
Since
1998, Urban League affiliates and African-American churches, fraternities,
sororities and professional and civic organizations, launch a
series of events in the month of September, Achievement Month,
to celebrate youth that are achieving. Events include Sunday sermons
about academic achievement and the educational crises facing youth;
celebrations of youth who are doing the right thing; and rallies
to bring public attention to the accomplishments and needs of
youth.
On
September 21, 2002, San Diego Urban League Family Resource Support
Network, 21st Century Youth Leadership T.E.A.M. and members of
the United Front celebrated youth and families "Doing the
Right Thing."
Over
one hundred family members (children, youth, parents, and guardians)
celebrated the positive aspects of providing a mutual respect
and support for each other.
Over
fifty recipients received Certificates of appreciation for "Doing
the Right Thing," and the Youth Leadership T.E.A.M. members
and their families enjoyed an afternoon barbeque together.
